Reader Testimonials:

Nice work by all of you guys on the draft guide. I’ve been playing fantasy hoops for six years now, and its probably the best one I’ve come across. You guys put in work and it shows.

- Chris

Lots of info already, good work!

- Nabyl

This is the best fantasy basketball draft guide I’ve ever seen!

- Pete Marasmitch

“The articles were well written and insightful, especially the “Efficient Ball” & “The 1-2 Bounce”. And of course, the 250 overall spreadsheet was perfect for draft day.”

- GB

“With the stress of work and family life, it’s hard to find time to draw up a definitive outlook of the fantasy basketball season to help with your drafting. Thankfully, the Four Fingers of Fantasy Draft Guide came along, and for a very low cost, I was able to form a strategy to help me reach the top of my league this season!”

- Adam

“Drafting Chris Paul left me in a giddy, euphoric state, which meant that I was unsure of the best strategy to undertake for the rest of the draft. After purchasing access to the Four Fingers of Fantasy Draft Guide, I knew where to go next!”

- Webster

The 2009 GMTR Four Fingers Draft Guide is the starting place for me winning this year. The information inside has a diversity and depth not found in other draft guides. I play in H2H leagues, so section 6. Draft Strategy is particularly awesome, especially the Small Ball midgets and freaky Rodman! Thanks to all the contributors for putting together this draft guide. I’m one step close to winning!!!

- Adam (a different one)

Informative concise and well worth the price. Hella consistent moreso than Antonio McDyess. I’ll be back for more next year this draft guide is that nice!

- Jayson

That 11th round of the mock draft is crazy wack funky, what with Iverson and McGrady. If that draft is done in Late October instead of late August, it’s probably a little different.

  6. Erik
    1:19 am on September 3rd, 2009

True Doney. That was one of the drawbacks we had to deal with relative to our intended “early release”. Where A.I. will actually sign, may cause future drafters to pick him a bit earlier. T-Mac, not so much.

will you adjust session’s projections now he’s with the wolves?

  8. nwadycki
    11:55 am on September 6th, 2009

Yeah, I’d like to see if Iverson signs with the Grizz first so we can save Patrick the trouble of updating everything more than once.

  9. Erik

Now that A.I. is due to join the Griz, I will be adjusting his and their projections as well. Sigh.

I try to get them processed as quickly as possible, but it’ll depend on what I’m doing at the time you register. I’ve been trying to get them done within a couple hours.

I’ll go in the H2H or Dynasty/Keeper league, wherever there’s an open spot (which looks more likely to be Keeper). I like the sound of Dynasty, though.

  22. nwadycki
    6:34 am on September 22nd, 2009

There’s still 2 spots in H2H, so I’ll put you in there. Let me know if you’d prefer Dynasty, though. Did you vote in the poll on GMTR? http://givemetherock.com/2009/09/21/gmtr-readers-leagues-updates/

Quick drafting advice Q: Bosh or Amar’e at #9 in a 10-team H2H league? Amare has more potential to pop I think, but he also has more potential to have his eye pop…out. Safer bet with Bosh or risk-reward with Amar’e?

  24. nwadycki
    6:39 am on September 25th, 2009

I’m tempted to boycott Amar’e because of his a’nnoying apostroph’e, but I’d still take him over Bosh. I feel like the Raptors have a lot more talent going on this season than the Suns, so A’m'a’r'e will be the focus of a lot more scoring opportunities.

  25. pmadden
    8:39 am on September 25th, 2009

I’d definitely go with Amare. Excuse me, Amar’e. Bosh has not been the healthiest guy himself over the past few years and with Shaq out of the picture in Phoenix, Amar’e should be in for a huge year.

    Some question regarding your projections:
Do the GP play a role in the rankings or are the rankings only for per game stats?
Why is Jefferson 13th in overall ranking, but 18th/23th in category rankings?
A guess: Only the overall rankings are per game. Right?

  34. bog
    11:03 pm on October 1st, 2009

Projections and Rankings can change quite a bit during preseason. I’m sure most drafts (mine including) are going to be held between the end of preseason and the start of the regular season. Would there be any updates, changes in projections, rankings, between that time? Considering most of us don’t have the time or the patience to watch and decipher the preseason games.

  35. nwadycki
    6:19 am on October 2nd, 2009

@bog – we’ve already updated the rankings once since the release of the guide, and we’ll do it again if we see anything that warrants a change.

  36. pmadden
    11:36 am on October 2nd, 2009

@Visor – Yes, the rankings take into account games played, although we tried to keep our games played predictions fairly generous since GP are so hard to predict.

As for Al Jefferson, the category rankings are straight-up how a guy ranks compared to every other player in the league based solely on our statistical projections (including GP). It’s the cold, hard, factual predictions. It does not take into account position eligibility or our general warm and fuzzy feelings about a player. So, we moved players around a little bit in the overall rankings because, like in Jefferson’s case, a guy plays at a scarce position. Also I think Jefferson was penalized quite a bit by our games played prediction. We obviously love Brook Lopez this year, but there is no way you should draft Lopez before Jefferson unless you are completely down on his ability to stay healthy over the course of an entire season.

And yeah, we’ll definitely continue to update the rankings as things change. Honestly, I’d really like to see how the Carlos Boozer situation works out before we take the time rerun everything.

    6:12 am on October 7th, 2009

Why do you rank Igoudala so high (9cat)? His last year per game stats were Top50. Now he is at 15. Is this only because of the increased FT% (+0.04%). And we should except this big increase?

  38. nwadycki
    6:48 am on October 7th, 2009

Well, as I like to say, I didn’t “rank” anyone… I made statistical projections and then those projections were analyzed in the same manner that is used for the GMTR Player Rater during the regular season.

That said, I think part of the reason Iguodala is so high is because he’s projected to play 80.7 games, which is far above average.

  39. pmadden
    5:57 pm on October 7th, 2009

Everything that Nels said, plus Igoudala is still only 25 years old and Andre Miller’s departure will give Igoudala more to do on offense. I personally like AI a lot going into the year, but I can see that some people might not be sold on his magical new jump shot (again).
As far as the FT% goes, he is a career 75.5% free throw shooter, which is actually what we predicted for him this year. No one ever accused us of being rocket scientists :)

  40. Erik
    8:45 pm on October 7th, 2009

I also like Iggy a lot this season. He should get some more assists while retaining his high steals all at the likely expense of higher TOs as the offense flows through him. Very few guys have high stls, asts, rebs, and pts. He should make a solid second round pick.
